D.C. police and fire officials recovered a person’s body Friday from the C&O Canal in Georgetown, according to authorities.

Vito Maggiolo, a spokesman for the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department, said rescue crews responded about 2:30 p.m. for a report of a person in the water.

The incident was near 34th Street and Cady’s Alley NW, south of M Street.

D.C. police took over the investigation but have released no other information.

Police did not provide an approximate age of the person, nor did they identify the person’s gender.
