A car plowed into a utility pole on Gallows Road in the Dunn Loring area of Fairfax County, causing delays on the busy thoroughfare during morning rush hour Wednesday, Fairfax County police said.

The accident left the pole and wires were in the roadway near the intersection of Iliff Road, police said. NBC 4 reported that Gallows Road was shutdown in both directions, but reopened about 6:30 a.m.

The news station also reported that downed wires had sparked a fire that knocked power out to some homes.

Police did not say what caused the accident or detail the condition of the driver involved in the crash.
