Some thieves steal packages from porches, and some take vehicles off the streets. But in Bowie on Monday a robber may have gotten both packages and a vehicle when he stole a FedEx truck.

A robber took a 20-foot box truck with a FedEx Ground logo on its side from a street in Bowie, a city of about 55,000 in Prince George’s County, the Bowie police department said.

The robber used a handgun in the carjacking, which occurred about 10:30 a.m. at the 6000 block of Grenfell Place, police said.

The thief was described in a police flier as tall, black and male.

It was not clear what the truck contained, but in a recent annual report, FedEx said it uses 180,000 motorized vehicles “to pick up and deliver more than 14 million shipments per day.”
