In a statement, Burkman said he was picking up documents from a source at the Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington, Va. Tuesday evening when he was “struck with some form of a projectile” and then run down by “a large black SUV.” The attack left him with a broken wrist and other injuries, he said.
Arlington police confirmed Wednesday that they were called to the scene at about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday and are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run collision. Burkman was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police spokeswoman Ashley Savage said.
Burkman reported another attack to police on January 16, saying that as he was approaching his home someone got out of a dark SUV and sprayed him with a “caustic substance.” No arrest has been announced in that case.
