Authorities charged a male counselor at an after-school program with sexual abuse of a minor after, police said, he inappropriately touched a preschooler.
The counselor, Raul Alejandro Ramos, 21, of Silver Spring, was taken into custody Thursday, police said. He is a counselor at a privately run after-school program in Rockville that is not administered by Montgomery County schools, according to a county police news release.
On Oct. 31, Child Protective Services alerted Montgomery detectives to a report of a counselor inappropriately touching a 5-year-old girl. Authorities said the incidents took place between Aug. 29 and Oct. 31, and all while the child was enrolled in the “Kids After Hours” program at Flower Valley Elementary School, according to the release.
Police said an investigation revealed that the 5-year-old had been touched inappropriately “more than once by a particular counselor” while playing tag. The incidents happened on the playground inside the school, authorities said.
Ramos was also charged with third-degree sexual offense. Bond information was not available Thursday, authorities said.
Police ask that anyone who has concerns about possible abuse of any other children in the after-school program contact detectives from Montgomery County’s Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5400.
