District police have arrested suspects in two fatal shootings that occurred hours apart on Sunday afternoon in the Navy Yard neighborhood and near Anacostia in Southeast.
In the first shooting, police said they charged Babajide Pittman, 31, with second-degree murder while armed and assault with a dangerous weapon.
The victim, Anthony Young, 27, of Southeast, was shot about 1:45 p.m. during what police described a dispute between two people who knew each other. It occurred in the 600 block of L Street SE, on the street that runs by the Marine Barracks. No further information was divulged.
Shortly after 4 p.m., police said Orlando Donald Silver III, 37, of the District, was shot and killed in the 1300 block of Howard Road SE. Police said they charged Marquette Tibbs, 24, of Southeast, with second-degree murder while armed.
A police report says officers found a small amount of marijuana on the suspect, along with a Smith & Wesson handgun. Tibbs also was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and being a felon in possession of a handgun.
Police did not describe a motive.
