Two young men have been arrested and charged with robbing taxi drivers in June and July in Southeast Washington, according to authorities.

Police said that the two were accompanied twice by a 16-year-old high school student who, in one holdup, was armed with a knife. Police said they are also seeking others who might have been involved.

The latest attack occurred about 6:30 p.m. July 23 in the 5200 block of E Street SE. Police said three occupants of a taxi directed the driver to a location and then grabbed and assaulted the driver. Police said they took property and fled.

Antonio Hare, 19, of Southeast Washington was charged with robbery by force and violence. Police said two others are being sought but have not been identified.

On July 21 about 4:15 p.m., police said, three people hailed a taxi at Seventh and H Streets NW and took it to the 5200 block of Fitch Street SE. Police said one man grabbed the driver while a teenager took a pocketknife that belonged to the driver and held it against his throat. “I will kill you if you don’t give me everything,” a robber said, according to an arrest affidavit filed in court on Thursday.

Police said the robbers took a silver iPhone 6, $280 and the driver’s brown wallet. The affidavit says they forced the driver to give up his passcodes and checked them before leaving the taxi.

Hare was charged in this case as well, with a second count of robbery by force and violence. He was arrested Aug. 9 along with two other suspects. Samuel Walker, 19, of Southeast Washington was charged with robbery by force and violence, and Dominic Cross, 16, of Southeast Washington was charged as an adult with armed robbery.

Police said they also charged Hare and Cross with robbery by force and violence in another taxi robbery that occurred about 12:45 a.m. June 30 in the 1800 block of Savannah Street SE. Police said one suspect grabbed the driver while the other took property. In this case, police said, a knife was not used.

The police affidavit says detectives arrested the suspects after watching surveillance video of them getting into the taxi at Seventh and H streets NW in the July 21 incident. The area is near Gallery Place and typically busy with shoppers and others.
