A 14-year-old Washington youth was charged Tuesday in a July 6 homicide in the District, police said. They said he was already in custody in connection with an earlier slaying.

The teenager, who was from Southeast, was charged Tuesday with first degree murder in the fatal shooting of Everett King, 52, of Southeast, in the 2400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, D.C. the police said.

At the time of his arrest, police said, he was in the custody of the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services in connection with the fatal shooting of Antonio Gardiner, in the 1500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue SE. No charge was specified in that incident.

Gardiner was killed on July 4, the police said, two days before the shooting of King.
