A 73-year-old Virginia man who was struck by a vehicle over the weekend has died, according to police.
Authorities said Thomas Porterfield Jr. of McLean was jogging at about noon Saturday when the incident happened, according to Fairfax County Police.
He was headed east in the 5900 block of Chesterbrook Road a few blocks from North Glebe Road when he tried to cross to the other side of the street and was hit by a BMW.
He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he died.
The driver of the car, an 82-year-old woman, stayed on the scene, police said.
Alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash. Fairfax police said no charges have been filed in the case at this time.
Police in Fairfax County said Porterfield was not at a traffic light or at a crosswalk when he crossed the street at the time of the incident.
The crash remains under investigation.
