More than three dozen military grenades were found Monday near a road on Maryland's Eastern Shore, the state fire marshal's office said.

A total of 38 grenades were found near Hurlock, Md. in Dorchester County by a citizen collecting recyclables,the office said. It said nine were live devices, and 19 more contained fuses but no explosive.Ten were inert.

Some were disposed of safely at the scene, and others at a landfill, the fire marshal's office said. It is not clear who owned them or how they came to be where they were found.
