Gunshots were reported Saturday night at the Arundel Mills Mall in Anne Arundel County, Md., in an incident that apparently provoked large-scale efforts to flee the popular retail and entertainment site.

Anne Arundel County police said a gunshot victim who went to a hospital “is related to the shots fired calls.” The Anne Arundel County police called the incident a targeted act, and not a random shooting.

The victim’s wounds or injuries were described as not life-threatening. However, few other details were provided by police.

In response to the social media reports posted by the police, a woman reported “we were there.”

On Twitter, the woman said her younger son, who is 7 “thinks he heard a loud bang.”

The woman said “a crowd of people was already running past us.”

In another Twitter posting, a woman said her son and a friend “were there.”

She said she was told “people were screaming and running towards them to get out . . . ”

According to that tweet, cars collided in the parking lot during the effort to flee.

In the words of a third person’s Twitter posting,” it was a terrifying experience.”

According to the posting, two shots were heard.

“We ran for the emergency exit immediately.”
