Harford County Sheriff’s Office officials said they have found no threat to the public after reports of a person with a gun on the Harford Community College campus in Bel Air, Md.

The college had sent an alert to students and staff at about 2:15 p.m. to shelter in place due to an “active shooter situation” near its ballfields. A nearby high school was evacuated and the ball field, where a tournament was going on.

A county sheriff’s deputy said at a 4:15 p.m. news briefing from the sports complex that although someone had reported seeing a person with dark clothing carrying a rifle, no such person had been found after a check of the area including building and surveillance video.

The campus is about 36 miles north of downtown Baltimore.
