The driver of an ice-cream truck was shot nine times during an apparent robbery attempt in Prince George’s County on Independence Day, police said.
On July 4 at about 6 p.m., the driver was parking his vehicle in a lot with other trucks in the 5100 block of Buchanan Street in Edmonston, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department. As he stepped out of the truck, two armed men approached and demanded any cash he was carrying, said Capt. Ken Humbel.
The driver was reluctant to give up the cash and was shot before he was robbed and the suspects fled the scene, Humbel said. The two robbers took several hundred dollars, he said.
The driver remains in critical condition, and police did not release his name.
Police are looking for the suspects. “If anyone has any knowledge of the incident or has seen something, we want them to call,” Humbel said.
Anyone with tips about the case can call 1-866-411-TIPS.
