A U.S. Postal Service mail truck was taken Friday night in Northwest Washington, touching off a brief chase before it was recovered, D.C. police said.

The truck was taken about 6:50 p.m. in the 700 block of Quebec Place NW, said Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman. It was recovered shortly afterward at 9th and Varnum Streets NW. The addresses are about three-quarters of a mile apart, in the Petworth area.

A mail truck, followed by two police vehicles, all operating at relatively modest speeds, appeared in a brief video posted online. In the 10 seconds of video, it appears that the vehicles have just rounded a corner. Sirens can be heard.

Carew said a woman was taken into custody in the incident. No motive in the incident could be learned.
