A victim attacked by an ax-wielding stranger said no words were exchanged before the assault outside the Benning Road Metro station in Northeast Friday night, according to court documents.
Authorities on Monday identified the alleged attacker as Stacey Fenner, 25, of Southeast. He has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and faces a July 11 preliminary hearing.
At about 10:30 p.m. Friday, the victim told police he was walking past Fenner, who turned and swung an ax four times, hitting the victim on the bicep and back and causing deep cuts, the charging documents state.
A witness ran to help the victim and grabbed the ax from Fenner before alerting police in a nearby car and pointing out Fenner as the attacker, the court records show. Fenner was ordered to the ground, did not comply and was pepper-sprayed twice, which did not affect him, charging documents say, before Fenner lunged at one officer who did a tactical takedown.
The victim told police he did not know Fenner.
The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Doug Buchanan, a spokesman for D.C. Fire and EMS, said Saturday.
Fenner’s lawyer, Chiemeka C. Opaigbeogu, declined to comment Tuesday.
