A man who suffered a self-inflicted stab wound Tuesday morning in Thomas Circle Park in Northwest Washington has died, according to police.
A D.C. police spokesman said detectives are investigating the case as an apparent suicide. Police said the man, identified as Paul Edward Wegerson, 35, of Northwest, died at an area hospital. Police said he wounded himself in the abdomen with a pair of scissors.
The incident occurred about 9:20 a.m. Tuesday adjacent to a statue of a Union Army general and near several hotels, churches and businesses. Several major streets meet at the park, including Massachusetts Avenue and M and 14th streets.
