A man was shot and killed Saturday near the southern edge of the Capitol Hill area, D.C. police said.
Commander Morgan Kane, head of the First police district said on an online community bulletin board that the man was shot indoors in the 900 block of 5th Street SE. Afterward, he ran from there, and collapsed in the 400 block of I Street SE. The site is around the corner from where the shooting apparently occurred.
Police were sent to the area in response to a report about an unconscious person. The victim died at the scene. Kane said the victim appeared to be a male adult. No name was given.
The street is a residential block just south of the Southwest Freeway. It is in a rapidly developing neighborhood, within a short walk of many Washington landmarks. It is just north of the Navy Yard, about a mile northeast of Nationals Park, and about the same distance southeast of the Capitol.
Police said last night that they were continuing to investigate. They asked that anyone with information call 2027279099 or text 50411.
