One person was the victim of an attempted robbery and another was stabbed early Thursday in separate incidents less than 90 minutes apart on the same block near Franklin Square in downtown Washington, according to D.C. police.

The attempted robbery occurred about 4 a.m. in the 1000 block of 14th Street NW, outside a Subway restaurant. Police said a man approached another man and demanded money.

The attacker struck the victim when he took out money and fled, police said. It was not immediately clear whether the assailant took the money. The victim was treated at the scene for injuries. Police made no arrest.

About 5:17 a.m., police said a man was stabbed with a knife during an argument, also in the 1000 block of 14th Street NW, but closer to K Street. Police said detectives were questioning a possible suspect but had not filed charges.

The victim’s condition was not immediately known, police said, but officials describe the injury as appearing to be not life-threatening.

Both incidents occurred on a well-traveled street and steps from a hotel whose lobby is open 24 hours a day. It also is near the Washington Post office.
