A 29-year-old man was struck and killed early Friday by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash near Dupont Circle in Northwest Washington.

Police in the District later identified the man as David Narvaez of Arlington.

Police said the crash happened just before 3 a.m. near M Street and New Hampshire Avenue NW. A vehicle was headed south on New Hampshire Avenue when it struck him. The driver fled the scene in the vehicle, which police said was black and had front-end damage.

Narvaez was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Roads in the area were shut down in the early morning hours.
