A 79-year-old Upper Marlboro man trying to cross I-495 early Saturday morning was struck by a Metrobus and killed, state police said.
James Albert Gibson, who had been reported missing to Prince George's police before the incident, was attempting to cross the southbound lanes near Md. Route 4 around 12:30 a.m.
Police said the bus driver who struck Gibson immediately stopped to check on him and called authorities. Gibson was declared dead at the scene.
Three lanes of the highway were closed for several hours.
