A massive fire burned a Fairfax County trash and recycling depot building for hours Thursday night, county fire department officials said.

Firefighters responded to the recycling and disposal facility in the 9800 block of Furnace Road in Lorton about 9 p.m., said Ashley Hildebrandt, a fire department spokeswoman. No injuries were reported as of about midnight.

Authorities brought more than 60 firefighters and 30 vehicles, including mutual aid units from Fort Belvoir, for a two-alarm response to the fire, which seemed likely to burn well after midnight.

The cause and origin of the fire were not immediately clear early Friday.
