Police identified a 61-year-old man whose body was found in a Rockville home that exploded last week and said that he had committed suicide.

Authorities said Steven M. Beck shot himself inside his Ashley Drive home. Fire officials were called to the house around 12:51 a.m. Friday after an explosion. The next day, investigators found Beck’s body in the basement of the shattered house.

Montgomery County police said that an autopsy was performed and that the medical examiner ruled Beck’s death to be a suicide, with the cause of death a gunshot wound.

A dog was also found near Beck’s body, authorities said. The dog had also died of a gunshot wound, according a department news release.
