A Maryland woman died after a crash in Virginia on Tuesday night that may have been caused by a medical emergency, authorities said Wednesday.

At around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, a 2008 Nissan Altima was traveling north on Interstate 395 when it ran off the left side of the interstate, sideswiped a Jersey wall and struck an impact attenuator, Virginia State Police said in a statement.

The driver, 54-year-old Eddy A. Hernandez-Torres, 54, of Adelphi, was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, the statement said.

Police said they are investigating a medical emergency as a cause of the crash.
