A new CEO has been named to lead Inova’s network of hospitals and health-care clinics that serve more than two million patients annually in the region, the nonprofit health organization announced Wednesday.

J. Stephen Jones, a doctor who is the current president of the Cleveland Clinic network of hospital and health-care centers, is set to begin the new job on April 9. He replaces CEO Knox Singleton, who announced his retirement in September.

Jones is an expert in urological oncology who pushed an effort to improve the Cleveland Clinics’ quality and safety metrics and expand the health-care system. He has led the Cleveland Clinic since 2014.

“By every measure, Stephen is a great choice for Inova,” Singleton said in a statement. “In addition to his record in clinical leadership and his experience in health-care operations, he also has been a successful leader of medical education and translational research.”

Inova employs 17,500 at five hospitals and a network of health-care facilities in Northern Virginia.
