A 17-year-old student was shot in the parking lot of a Maryland high school on Monday evening, police said.
At around 5:15 p.m., officers responded to the shooting in the 6700 block of Leyte Drive in Oxon Hill, according to Prince George's County police Cpl. Lamar Robinson.
An Oxon Hill High School student went outside to the parking lot to meet other individuals inside a vehicle, Robinson said, and was shot in the upper body during the meeting.
The student, an 11th-grader who was not named by police, was taken to a hospital where he is in critical but stable condition, and is expected to survive, according to Robinson.
Police said they do not believe this is a random act, and said no other students were injured. The school was closed at the time of the shooting, though extracurricular activities were underway.
