One person was killed Sunday in a single car crash in the Dumfries area of Prince William County, the county police said.

The crash occurred about 3 a.m. on Potomac Shores Parkway near Cherry Hill Road, the police said. They said the driver lost control of the vehicle, which left the road and struck a tree.

They said a front seat passenger, described only as a juvenile male, died of his injuries at a hospital. The driver and a backseat passenger were both seriously injured, the police said.

It was not clear why the car left the road and police said they were investigating.
