One pedestrian died and another was injured after they were struck by a vehicle as they crossed a street in the Largo area, officials said.

The two had just gotten off a Metrobus and were walking north as they crossed Largo Road near Campus Way, around 6:30 p.m. Monday, Maryland State Police said. They were in a crosswalk when they were struck by a BMW 325i driven by a 25-year-old from Jessup, Md.

The driver stayed at the scene, and police said there was “no indication of impairment being a factor.”

The pedestrians were taken to a hospital where one of them — Tevin Jamal Bailey, 27, of Bowie, Md. — died. The other person — a 25-year-old woman — is being treated for her injuries, according to police.

The road was closed for three hours, and the crash remains under investigation.

It comes as the D.C. region has seen an uptick in pedestrian-related crashes over the past year.
