A 3-year-old boy was struck by a car and killed late Saturday afternoon in Alexandria, city police said.

Crystal Nosal, spokeswoman for the Alexandria police, said the incident was reported about 4:40 p.m. in the 3900 block of Executive Avenue.

Few details were immediately available. But Nosal said preliminary information indicated that the child might have run into the street.

The site is a residential street of two- and three-story red-brick apartment houses, where cars park nose-in. The street intersects busy Mount Vernon Avenue near Four Mile Run on the north side of Alexandria.

The area is familiarly known to residents as Chirilagua, named for a city in El Salvador. It has been home over the years to many Latino immigrants.

Meanwhile, new developments were reported Saturday in another pedestrian incident, which Virginia State Police described as a Friday morning hit-and-run on Interstate 95 in Fairfax County.

In that incident, a safety services employee of the state's Transportation Department was seriously injured while aiding a disabled motorist in the Newington area, authorities said.

The police said Saturday that Ginnun S. Frazier, 27, of Alexandria was arrested and charged with hit-and-run and driving on a revoked license.
