D.C. police on Monday arrested a suspect in the Sept. 13 fatal shooting of an 18-year-old man who was killed near the eastern end of the H Street corridor in Northeast Washington.
Antwan Buchanan, 41, was charged with second-degree murder while armed. Interim D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham credited surveillance video and help from the community for the arrest.
The victim was identified as Tesean Jermaine Ashe, 18, of Southeast. He was shot about 5:30 p.m. in the 700 block of 16th Street NE. He died at a hospital.
The shooting occurred near the so-called “Starburst” intersection, where Benning Road, H Street, Maryland Avenue and Bladensburg Road meet. Police had said they were looking for a man seen on a black scooter.
Police did not release any other details of the shooting, including a possible motive. More information will be made available when the suspect makes his initial appearance in D.C. Superior Court.
