Correction: This story initially reported an incorrect number of homicides this year in Maryland.
Authorities in Prince George’s County said a 59-year-old man who was shot in the Springdale area on Tuesday has died.
He was identified as Bernard Parker of Utica Place.
Police said the incident began about 1 p.m. when they were called to the 3700 block of Ladova Way for the report of a crash involving a car. When they arrived, they found an empty car that had hit a tree.
Investigators later found that the driver — Parker — had been taken to an area hospital with a gunshot wound.
Police said they are trying to figure out a motive and suspect — or suspects — in the incident. They are offering a $25,000 reward for any information in the case that leads to an arrest and indictment.
Anyone with information is asked to call 301-772-4925.
The county has recorded more than 60 homicides so far this year.
