A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed Tuesday in a crash with a car in the Burtonsville area, police said.

The motorcyclist, identified by authorities as Addisu Mesfin of Burtonsville, died on the scene of the crash, according to a department press release.

Montgomery County police said the collision happened in the area of the 13900 block of Old Columbia Pike around 6 p.m.

Authorities said a preliminary investigation reveals that a 2011 Toyota Camry was making a left turn from northbound Old Columbia Pike onto westbound Briggs Chaney Road, when Mesfin’s 2009 Suzuki motorcycle was traveling southbound on Old Columbia Pike approaching Briggs Chaney Road.

For reasons still under investigation, police said the motorcycle and the car collided in the intersection. Authorities added that car’s driver, a 64-year-old Silver Spring woman, was not injured in the crash and remained on scene.

Police shutdown Briggs Chaney Road at Old Columbia Pike for the accident investigation.

Authorities ask that anyone with information regarding this fatal collision contact the Montgomery County Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit at (240) 773-6620.
