Fairfax County police have tentatively identified the victim of a homicide found in Centreville Wednesday as a juvenile, and said a new Virginia law may preclude them from releasing his name or other details of the case.

A delivery driver found the juvenile lying in the street with upper body trauma in the 13000 block of Jeb Stuart Square on Wednesday morning, police said. Officers responded to the scene at 5:17 a.m. and the juvenile was pronounced dead at the location.

Officers did not recover any weapons at the scene, police said. The medical examiner is expected to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

Police said a new Virginia law prohibits them from releasing most details about the case, including the juvenile’s name, unless parental consent is provided. The law prohibits law enforcement agencies from directly or indirectly identifying deceased juvenile victims of crimes.
