Remains found in park were those of homicide victim, D.C. police say

A man whose bones were found earlier this month in the District was a homicide victim, D.C. police said Friday.

The skeletal remains were found Feb. 4 in Fort Dupont Park near the 3600 block of F Street, police said.

The remains were those of Keith Johnson, 44, of Southeast, according to the police.

After being found, the remains were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, police said. They said examination determined that Johnson died of a gunshot wound in a homicide.

No information was available about who fired the fatal shot, or why. It could not be learned Friday night how long the remains had been in the park.
