A robbery victim tackled a suspect Friday night on the outskirts of the Capitol Hill area after his property was taken in what appeared to be an armed holdup, D.C. police said.
The victim was approached about 9:20 p.m. in the 900 block of New Jersey Avenue SE, and the incident was seen by an off-duty D.C. police officer who immediately called for help, police said.
When the suspect tried to leave the area, police said, the victim made his move. Officers intervened, and the suspect was arrested.
All of the victim’s property was recovered, police said. They also said they found an “imitation pistol.”
The matter was being reviewed Saturday to determine whether the holdup was connected to a recent rash of robberies in the Capitol Hill area, authorities said. Two of those robberies, both of which occurred Wednesday night, were within two or three blocks of the site of Friday’s incident.
The Friday incident occurred just east of South Capitol Street and a few hundred yards south of the Southeast Freeway.
