Wilson was a sales and marketing representative who worked from the model home, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said evidence suggests Wilson was killed. Medical examiners were expected to perform an autopsy Thursday to determine the cause and manner of death.
Investigators launched air and K-9 searches of the home and surrounding neighborhood throughout the night to “identify multiple pieces of evidence,” police said. The investigation remains “very active and fluid,” police said.
Wilson grew up in nearby Edgewater and was close with his family, said Leland Sampson, Wilson’s brother-in-law.
“He was quick with a joke, charismatic and liked to make people feel good about themselves,” Sampson said.
Wilson’s family released a brief statement Thursday afternoon.
“Steve was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend,” the statement read. “He is survived by his wife and daughters. The family is awaiting the results of a police investigation of his death and has no comment at this time.”
A LinkedIn page for a Steven Wilson of Annapolis lists him as a sales and marketing representative for Ryan Homes. A representative from the company’s headquarters based in Reston, Va., declined to comment when reached by phone Thursday afternoon.
