Authorities in Spotsylvania County said they are looking for a 19-year-old woman who was last seen after her family dropped her off over the weekend at the Franconia Springfield Metro station but her luggage was found in a drainage ditch.

Katelin Akens was last seen in the Spotsylvania area. Her family told authorities they dropped her at the Metro stop and expected her to take the Metro to Reagan National Airport to catch a flight. Authorities did not say where Akens was traveling to. But family members said she did not arrive at her destination, according to authorities.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office said they found Akens’s luggage in a drainage ditch in Spotsylvania County near the Fredericksburg city limit.

In a statement, Spotsylvania County Sheriff Roger L. Harris said, “The circumstances surrounding this case are suspicious enough to warrant our full investigate efforts, in attempting to locate Miss. Akens.”
