Seat Pleasant Police Chief Devan Martin was hospitalized Thursday night after he was thrown from a city police motorcycle after a collision with a car in Seat Pleasant, Prince George’s County police said.

The accident happened near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway and Glen Willow Drive about 8:20 p.m., county police officials said.

“Chief Martin is recovering. Earlier this evening he was involved in a collision with another vehicle, county Police Chief Hank Stawinski said. “In that collision, he came off the motorcycle,” Stawinski said at a news conference.

“I want to thank the citizens who stopped to help the chief and rendered aid,” Stawinski said.

He added that doctors were evaluating Martin late Thursday and they did not know the extent of his injuries. But police said they were believed to be non-life threatening.

It was not immediately clear what caused the collision. No one in the car was injured, police said.
