Caretakers of Meridian Hill Park in Northwest Washington have noticed something missing from the Joan of Arc statue.

Her sword.

Officials with the National Park Service said they noticed the statue of France’s national heroine had been vandalized on Wednesday morning. They aren’t sure exactly when the bronze sword was stolen but believe it likely happened Tuesday.

It isn’t the first time the statue’s sword has been stolen.

The sword was stolen in the 1970s and at times it was replaced with flowers. The sword was replaced in December 2011.

Park authorities said they are working to get a new replacement sword for Joan.

Anyone with information on the sword theft is asked to call 202-610-7505.

NBC 4 was among the first to report the theft.
