A 25-year-old contract worker for the Virginia Department of Transportation died Saturday after a car struck him while he was setting up a mobile work zone on Interstate 95 in Prince George County, state police said Sunday.

Dustin Michael Warden of Carson was working on the southbound side of the highway near Route 602 when he was hit by a 2015 Honda Civic, police said.

The driver, 27-year-old Samantha C. Hughes of Wilmington, N.C., took her eyes off the road and hit Warden, police said. Warden died at the scene.

Hughes was charged with reckless driving.
