The man suspected of killing a 77-year-old man who was found dead in his apartment in a Fairfax City retirement community in April is his nephew, Fairfax County police said Monday.
Phuong Thanh Nguyen, 53, killed Cong Huu Nguyen at the Little River Glen Senior Retirement Community on April 20, before fleeing to Vietnam and later committing suicide, police said. Detectives said the motive in the slaying appeared to be financial gain.
Phuong Nguyen was linked to the crime through DNA evidence, and police believe he was the only person involved in his uncle’s killing.
A Virginia medical examiner determined that Cong Nguyen died of trauma to his upper body.
