Police have identified a woman killed after she was struck by an SUV as she pushed a shopping cart through a parking lot in Lanham, Md.
The victim, Mary Ankeney, 74, of Bowie, Md., died a short time after she was taken to the hospital on Saturday, according to Prince George’s County Police.
The incident happened around 2 p.m. in the 10500 block of Greenbelt Road near Forbes Boulevard, police said.
A preliminary investigation found that Ankeney had just left a nearby store and was pushing a cart to the parking lot when she was struck.
The vehicle had just pulled up in front of the store, according to police. But the vehicle was not in park. It went forward and hit Ankeney, police said.
The driver stopped the vehicle and got out, police said, and called 911.
