Montgomery County police arrested a 17-year-old Walt Whitman student Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a female student at another county high school and then brandishing a knife at students and a parent who tried to intervene, police officials said.

The attack happened in the bus loop of the Winston Churchill High School about 11:30 a.m. when police discovered the victim had sustained minor injuries, according to county police. The suspect threatened people who tried interrupt the altercation before he fled the area, police said.

Investigators determined the identity of the suspect and later arrested him at his Potomac home, police said. Officials did not release the identity of the teen or the charges he faces.
