Two teenagers were arrested Tuesday after one robbed and fatally shot a man in Prince George’s County whose body was later set on fire, police said.
On Monday at around 9:50 a.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of Brooke Road in Capitol Heights after 27-year-old Rayshand Lee Cotton of Landover was found on the ground suffering from severe burns and a gunshot wound, Prince George’s County police said in a statement. Cotton was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy determined he died of the gunshot wound, the statement said.
On Wednesday, police said they arrested 17-year-old Demiko Aiken of Capitol Heights, who is charged with first and second-degree murder in Cotton’s death, and a 16-year-old not named by authorities who is charged as a juvenile with accessory-after-the-fact.
Aiken, who knew Cotton, was arrested with the juvenile while driving Cotton’s stolen SUV in Capitol Heights Tuesday evening, according to police. The motive for the murder was the robbery of the SUV, police said, and the 16-year-old admitted to helping Aiken get rid of the body after the shooting.
Police asked anyone with further information about Cotton’s death to contact them at 301-772-4925 or go to pgcrimesolvers.com and submit a tip online.
