Three Alexandria teenagers have been charged in the stabbing of a man on the Four Mile Run Trail in Arlington on Monday evening, Arlington police said in a statement.

The 16- and 17-year-olds approached the victim on the trail and, after exchanging words, assaulted him, police said. Authorities said it is not clear what the argument was about.

Arlington police responded to the 3400 block of South Glebe Road at about 4:50 p.m. and found the victim with multiple stab wounds. Authorities said the man's wounds are "serious but not life-threatening."

In addition to the counts related to the stabbing, the teens were each charged with gang participation. The youths were not identified because they are juveniles.
