Toddler found unconscious in the District last year died in homicide, police say

The death of a toddler who was found unconscious in the District last year has been declared a homicide, the D.C. police said.

The child was identified as Rhythm Fields, of Southeast Washington. Police said they were sent on March 21 to the 5400 block of C Street SE, the police said, and found a one-year-old girl who was unconscious and unresponsive.

The office of the chief medical examiner ruled on Monday that the child died as a result of a homicide. The cause was given as multiple blunt force injuries.

An explanation could not be immediately learned Tuesday night for the time between the discovery of the child and the medical examiner's ruling.
