Two separate shootings were reported early Sunday morning in the District, both of them in locations that appeared likely to arouse particular concern.
One was in the 1000 block of Spring Road NW, on the edge of the rapidly gentrifying Petworth neighborhood, and a couple of blocks west of Georgia Avenue NW. Crime in the Georgia Avenue corridor, although farther north, has become a public issue recently. The site is near the Georgia Avenue/Petworth Metro station.
The shooting on Spring Road was reported just before 2 a.m. Police said they were looking for four people.
About 20 minutes earlier a shooting was reported at an address near Dupont Circle NW and the thriving Connecticut Avenue dining and entertainment corridor.
Police gave the address as 18th and M Streets NW, in a neighborhood that is busy by day and by night. It is about three blocks southeast of Dupont Circle NW, and about a block west of St. Matthew’s Cathedral.
