Two men who were shot — one fatally — on Tuesday afternoon at an intersection in Congress Heights were sitting inside a BMW, according to D.C. police.
The shootings occurred about 3:50 p.m. at Alabama Avenue and Stanton Road SE, in front of a carryout and near Turner Elementary School, less than one mile from the 7th District police station.
Police identified the man who was killed as Antwan Jones, 31, of Arlington, Va. The name of the other victim, whose injuries were described as non life-threatening, was not released.
The police report says both men were in a BMW 525i. They were taken to a hospital; Jones died at 4:23 p.m.
No arrests have been made.
The District has recorded 29 homicides so far this year, up from three at this time in 2016.
