Fairfax County police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the sexual assault Thursday of a woman on a walking trail, and authorities said they are investigating if there is a connection to five similar attacks.
Authorities on Friday charged Jeremiah Whitmore Tolley, of Fairfax, with abduction with intent to defile and sexual assault in the Thursday attack, Fairfax County police said. A woman was walking alone on a trail near Waples Mill Road and Random Hills Road about 5 p.m., when a man grabbed her from behind and groped her, police said.
The woman was not injured, and the man was last seen running west on Random Hills Road, officials said in a statement.
Detectives are investigating if Tolley may be linked with five other attacks that occurred after 4 p.m. on trails in the Fairfax area in the past two weeks, police said. They asked that anyone with information about this or related sexual assaults contact them at 703-591-0966.
