A Virginia woman was sentenced to more than three years in prison for adding cleaning agent to a coffee maker and poisoning her co-workers last year, prosecutors said Thursday.
In January last year, people who worked with 33-year-old Mayda Edith Rivera Juarez of Sterling at a business in that city reported nausea and vomiting, among other complaints.
In February, Rivera Juarez pleaded guilty to one count of adulteration of food with intent to injure or kill, saying she put Windex in the coffee machine to sicken her supervisor, according to a statement from the Loudoun County Commonweath Attorney’s Office. She also said she put Ajax dish soap in the coffee machine and poured the soap into her supervisor’s coffee cup, the statement said.
On Tuesday, Rivera Juarez, who was fired after her supervisor reviewed surveillance footage of her pouring Windex into the coffee maker, was sentenced to three years and six months in prison, prosecutors said.
