Red line service delayed by insulator problem on tracks near Medical Center station

Service on Metro’s red line was delayed Tuesday evening by an electrical problem near the Medical Center station, authorities. said.

A Metro spokeswoman said an insulator on the tracks was arcing, apparently as a result of the evening’s heavy rains.

Passengers on trains headed toward Medical Center from downtown said their trains had been halted. The problem was reported near the end of the evening rush hour.

Metro said it was checking around 8 p.m. to determine whether it would be necessary to begin service in both directions on a single track, to bypass the area of the problem.
